Love Named BCMS Teacher of the Year

Brooks County Middle School Principal Christine Freeman recently announced that Brooks County Middle School’s Teacher of the Year is Coach Dominique Love. Coach Love is the Health and Physical Education teacher for grades 6-8. A graduate of Valdosta State University and Walden University with both a Bachelors and Masters degrees, he has been teaching for seven years. “I wanted to be the person I needed when I was growing up. I always felt the best way to change the future is by impacting the youth. The only way to change or fix problems in politics, social injustice, etc. is not by changing my generation or the generation before me, because we are pretty much stuck in our ways. So the best way I could do my part is by inspiring and changing the lives of students before they get "stuck in their ways" stated Love.

Building relationships with students and impacting our future leaders is Love’s most rewarding aspect of teaching. Love recently was interviewed by a local news agency when a photo of him went viral on social media. The photo captured Love wearing a student’s shoes after giving the student his own pair of shoes to wear during the 8th grade promotion ceremony. Principal Christine Freeman said, “As a Health and Physical Education teacher, Coach Love has high expectations for his students in and out of school. He loves our students and consistently strives to be a positive role model for them. Coach Love demonstrates his dedication to Brooks County Schools by volunteering to DJ at events, taking pictures and creating videos for events and by assisting our school and the district when he’s needed.”

Love has many favorite teaching memories but one of his favorites is when he took a group of
students to a Family and Friends Weekend at his church. He and his students performed a song
together that weekend. The son of Robert and Equialla Love and brother of Darnell, Coach Love enjoys playing and coaching football and basketball. When not on the field or court, he can be found lifting weights, drawing, or practicing and perfecting his photography and videography skills. Coach Love will represent Brooks County Middle School for the 2021-2022 school year as Teacher of the Year and will compete at the district level for the title of Brooks County Schools Teacher of the Year. The BCS Teacher of the Year will be named at the Teacher of the Year banquet hosted in the fall. Pictured is Coach Love and Mrs. Freeman.
