Read With Malcolm

As you may know, we have been participating in several Read with Malcolm challenges. If you are not familiar with Read with Malcolm, it is a foundation started by VHS, UGA graduate, and current New England Patriot Wide Receiver, Malcolm Mitchell. While Malcolm did excel at sports, he often struggled with academics.

When he enrolled at the University of Georgia, he realized that he lacked the necessary literacy skills needed to succeed as a college student. He then took it upon himself to join a book club in hopes of helping himself to become a better reader. Throughout this journey, he realized that there were many kids just like him in communities around the US.

With the help of several supportive adults, he chose to write a children’s book titled “The Magicians Hat.” The story is one in which a magician shows students that through the magic of reading they can do and do anything!

His book became so popular that he decided to start a foundation to help all students reach their full potential. Malcolm’s foundation, “Read with Malcolm,” is working to put books in the hands of as many students as possible. He also takes time out of his NFL career to visit schools and share his message of how important reading is in everyone’s life.

We have been lucky enough to qualify for a grant in which Malcolm’s foundation will pay half of the cost for all 591 QES students to receive a copy of his book as well as a visit to our school from the Magician and Malcolm.

While the grant is hugely helpful, we still need a great deal of money to make this happen. With Mr. Perry and Mrs. Healey’s blessings, I have created a Donors Choose page to help fund the remaining costs. If you feel like donating or know of an individual or organization who would like to donate, please feel free to share this page with them.

Use the link below with the code liftoff and Donors Choose will match your donation up to $50.
